So sad that substack has only one ❤️for me to give you. A wonderful article. Thanks for doing what you do.

For those who think that wearing a hijab entails regressive thinking, these young women may change their minds: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QjmcZfOlopU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WPVo_QyS0Hw (or not - the ruts some people run in can be irredeemably deep)

For almost a century, England has had fascism simmering under the surface, occasionally boiling over - but there have always been people ready to fight back: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anti-fascism#United_Kingdom:_against_Mosley's_BUF https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anti-Nazi_League https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anti-Fascist_Action https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unite_Against_Fascism

Thank you! Yeah I mean ... it's actually western provincialism, not openness, that we view women covering as some animalistic partriarchal abuse. The headscarf is a beautiful scarf that makes women's eyes stand out. And a hijab, well, I can perhaps see the value in not having your body exposed for men to view, comment on, and attack everytime you leave the house. I am SURE that there are many women who hate and feel stifled by the tradition. But, it IS western hegemonic thought that equates "women's freedom" with "wearing daisy duke shorts" (which I personally like! But it's not everyone's style!)

Obviously, how much to cover or expose should be the woman's choice. I suspect most people are fine with that, but clearly some are not. Voᗺ have toured Europe, the U.S. and Asia and it's mostly not a problem, but it was A Big Deal in France. They recorded a cute little TikTok there: https://www.tiktok.com/@voiceofbaceprot/video/7038291150964280603
