Shellenberger is a bad person. He has figured out a way to peddle lies and make himself rich and has made a career out of it.

Indeed, he is truly insufferable and mean-spirited at best. His lies contain just enough nuance (while glossing over or ignoring the most important nuances and details) to be gobbled up the average Joe and Jane Sixpack.

I read this out loud to my partner and wept. Thank you for your commitment to framing this as an issue of humanity over and over again.

Eleven years ago, paramedics stopped CPR after 25 minutes of me on the front lawn of my friend’s house, in total cardiopulmonary arrest. As a charge nurse at Mass General and fellow opioid user, my friend continued CPR and I am unbelievably still here. Narcan and harm reduction measures more broadly have saved my life. There is no rhyme or reason for why I am alive and so many of my friends are not, so in my limited capacity, I want to convey how appreciative I am of your work, Zach. We are not beyond help or unworthy of dignity, no matter where we are in our deeply personal process.

Ok...so I've done years of research on this topic resulting in a Bachelor degree dual majoring in both Chemical Dependency Counseling and Psychology. Please do not mix up America (north or south) with the United States of America; they aren't the same thing. One of the worst selling points of Insite is that it's "North America's first"...this really throws a wrench in the wheel of advocates because it leads people to think that we–the United States–already have these sites.

We don't...not sanctioned by the Federal government nor any single State government.

In fact, the two in New York are only sanctioned by the city. They were sanctioned by former mayor B. DeBlasio making them still illegal on a State and Federal level. This is extremely problematic when it comes to funding from those sources...in other words, OnPointNYC get's no love from either of the primary sources of mental health monies (i.e., Federal and State revenues).

So to be clear, overdose prevention sites are still very much illegal in all of the United States. Also, let's clear the air on their efficacy; Canada is home to 1/3rd of the entire planet's prevention sites which can also be found in 12 different countries and have a 35+ year track record of saving lives. In fact, there has never been a reported death in any site in any country for more than half of the global population has even been alive.

NOT A SINGLE DEATH!!

Put quite simply, these sites would not have such a track history if they did all the things suggested by Shellenberger such as attracting drug dealers and causing people to defecate and perform oral sex in public.

Here's my challenge to all the readers...download and read through more than 1,000 academic articles just from the past 10 years like I did and tell me if Shellenberger's (and the anti-drug United States citizens') argument has even the tiniest grain of feasibility. I'd love to hear from you.
