Thank you for posting these stories, thank you for the double tap. Ignoring this stuff doesn't make it better or make it go away.

So few people know the difference between jail and prison. Thank you for raising awareness of the distinction and why it's so important! I truly hope you get a book deal to write about jails. You are such a captivating and informative writer.

Seconded! Also, double tap all you want! Substance is filled to the brim with, well, substance. As someone that has spent time incarcerated in a county jail, it's liberating to see this reporting, instead of the status quo of breathlessly typing out the police report. Thanks, as always!

Similarly, acutely I'll psychiatric patients who are 'committed' by their state to long term care are housed at state hospitals designed for long term care. But (big but), states under fund said hospitals such that they are unable to admit all the patients the state commits. What then? The patients that can't get a bed at the state hospital are left sitting in hospital psychiatric wards which are designed for short stays. Patients can spend months being treated as if they are as acutely I'll as the fresh admits. With little occupational therapy, little outdoor opportunity, little to no ability to exercise life quickly becomes a groundhog day that no one looks forward to. But hey, at least the rich in America have figured out how to avoid paying taxes. Aren't they brilliant?

As someone currently in BOP custody it's hard to imagine that it's actually worse other places. Mind boggling.

Incidentally, just let FCP Beaumont a month ago. At least two people died while I was there, but the camp attempted to revive the long dead individuals until they were in the parking lot so they could 'accurately' day they didn't die in custody.

Happened twice while I was there. I was told during the pandemic, happened a lot more frequently.
