I had a feeling he was going to be bad. I think he was mislabeled as a progressive in the first place. Everyone gets really excited during elections, but they always tell who they are in their agenda. I thought he would hold out a little bit longer, and play the progressive card a little bit longer. But seems like this war was planned this way. I really don’t know how to read this moment in history other than it’s worse than I could ever imagined. The end of the dnc seems far more real than the end of the gop. Pure evil has billions to give everyone on either party to look the other way, but vast majority sees the cracks in the foundation now. I am sure we have not seen the last of these fake progressives switch to the dark side. I expect it to be the new big fad

What I find disturbing about Fetterman's support of Israel is the sycophantic extent to which he displays it, like he had some skin in the game or a deep connection to Israel- parading around while wearing the flag of Israel like a cape isn't normal behavior, even for the hardcore Zionist. Seeing Fetterman do this on multiple occasions, and at other times waving the Israeli flag at protesters while flashing a maniacal grin, has left me with the distinct impression that something is seriously off with this guy.

I'd rather it be him occupying a US Senate seat than any Republican, but I'm just waiting for him to fully remove the mask and metamorphose into another Kyrsten "Cinema"- who also campaigned as a progressive- before turning into whatever the hell she is now. You know where you stand with even the most hardcore maga Republican, but with duplicitous cons like Sinema, you never know

It's so bizarre. It might partly be strategic, as it earns him "He's brave enuf to buck the lefties" headlines. But it does seem a little extreme. Same for Richie Torres. It's like "dude maybe do something about poverty in the Bronx instead of rage Tweet about Israel."

I think Fetterman is guilty of exactly what he’s accused young progressives of doing: blindly backing one side without paying attention to the nuanced arguments for and against the war. Based on his statements, it seems as though he believes Israel can do no wrong, simply because their overarching values align better with ours. You laid out a great case for why this idolatry is misplaced. I certainly don’t think that most progressives are Hamas-apologists. Those that support a terrorist organization that has ruined the lives of the Palestinian people are extremely misguided. This does not give Israel the golden ticket to carpet bomb the Palestinian territory. If they truly live by Western values, I would hope that they would address and correct the egregious errors they’ve made since this entire debacle began. As a Pennsylvania voter who supported Fetterman in 2016 & 2022, I feel betrayed by his recent statements because he told us he was someone else during his campaigns. I don’t fault people from learning, growing, and adjusting their opinions to recognize the new information they’ve consumed. But he is now treating “progressive” as if it’s a dirty word. He’s not the man I thought he was and I’m disappointed for his refusal to see fault on both sides.

Yeaaaahhhh, I'm not sure calling this milquetoast centrist, regardless of his apparent betrayal of a progressive identify that he never wore too comfortably, a "psychotic extremist" is going to accomplish much?

The dude sucks, sure, but in the same way all mainstream democrats suck. If Fetterman is a "psychotic extremist", what the fuck do we even call your modal Republican? Literal demons from hell?

Not in favor of the label inflation that both sides are prone to these days, words have meaning.

My point if you got to the end is that someone SO out of touch with reality due to his political opinions that he's like "Der why don't progressives support Israel?" is an extremist, not a moderate. I'm not saying he's the Devil. I'm saying that his perspective on Israeli is a break from reality. It's tongue and cheeck (sort of)

Ah; fair enough! I guess I'm just used to the old argument for why progressives should support Israel over the theocracies and dictatorships of their enemies (I think that argument is dogshit, as Israel is clearly as harsh on its internal enemies as any gulf petrostate run by one family) but it doesn't put him on the edge of opinion, unfortunately, I think most centrists who support Israel think in the same terms.

Yeah I mean I guess my larger point, which I should have clarified, is that this position shouldn't be presented as "reasonable center"

I do not know. But I do think he has firm ideas of what is right and wrong. I keep my mouth shut (unless to say there's bad people on both sides) because 56 years ago I commented on the six day war and got a shovel slammed into my the left side of my face. It has been a hot button issue for that long.

Psychotic extremist?

It's it far more likely he's just dumb and doesn't care.
