I agree with the premise of this article, but was honestly a little surprised about the way addiction has been referenced in your articles about immigration versus all other articles. In this article, it feels like one of the arguments being used to support current asylum seekers is to put down those with an addiction to say that asylum seekers aren't like that... Like this line, referencing what communities are really afraid of: "That America will have a population influx of people who aren’t morbidly obese or addicted to fentanyl?" The tone here seems to be very strongly implying that asylum seekers are more worthy than folks with obesity or a substance use disorder. I noticed it in the last article on this topic too, with the line commenting about how migrants are "not dropping dead from fentanyl, alcoholism, obesity, and love hard work, unlike native-born Americans?" I interpreted this as you saying that asylum seekers do not have substance use disorders or obesity problems and love hard work, unlike native-born Americans, and therefore are more worthy of support. This type of language seems to rely on stigmatizing the very group that Substance has written so many articles about. I think your same point about asylum seekers could be made without these sorts of comments at the expense of other marginalized groups.

Immigrants are GOOD! Good as neighbors, good for neighborhoods, good for communities, good for America. They are a positive good and these people definitely need to burn in hell for all eternity.

I suspect a lot of the resentment directed at migrants is for entering our country illegally and the benefits they’re getting from our government. I’m a second generation American and am sympathetic towards immigrants. But when my grandparents emigrated from Eastern Europe not speaking any English they came here legally and there was no government assistance.

I suspect a lot of the resentment directed at migrants seeking a better life is from people who listen to hateful talking heads on their radio and televisions. What would Jesus do?

The poster you’re replying to made no mention of “hateful talking heads.” Please try again, and perhaps consider avoiding sarcastic religious references.

I get where your coming from, I think you anger and frustration is getting the best of your writing. Your 100% correct on your immigration stance. I can see how it’s related to drugs enforcement and the general American government/community/ populism, but it doesn’t show that in the article, but I think I know where your coming from. Love your stuff. American news and popular opinion is so hollow and mindless. The American identity is real strong and your seeing how toxic to humanity it is first hand.
